Getting Started with Reports in Power BI

Purpose/Overview

This article explains how to access and create reports using Power BI in Utilisphere. With Irth’s embedded Power BI reporting, you can explore and visualize ticket data in ways that fit your organization’s specific needs. Whether you’re tracking ticket volume by state, evaluating locator performance, or reviewing historical trends, Power BI makes it easy to build custom dashboards—no advanced technical skills required.

To access this feature: Utilisphere > Analytics > Power BI Reporting

Things to Know:

  • Permissions: You must have reporting permissions enabled in Utilisphere to access Power BI.
  • Browser/Platform: Works best in modern browsers (Chrome, Edge). Some features may display differently on mobile.
  • Data Access: The Ticket Historical template uses older archived data, while Ticket Live templates pull near-real-time ticket information.

Key Benefits/Use Cases:

  • Ticket Volume Tracking: View tickets by state or region to monitor workload distribution and identify trends.

  • Performance Evaluation: Measure locator performance and response times to improve operational efficiency.

  • Trend Analysis: Review historical ticket data to forecast future needs and support compliance reporting.

Accessing Reports:

  3. Interact with the Report by clicking Open Advanced Edit and use filters, slicers, and drill-down features to explore the data. You can customize views or save personal bookmarks as needed.
  4. Save your report.

Creating Reports:

Follow these steps to create a report with Power BI:

  1. Click Create New Report.

  2. Choose a template (Historical Blank Report, Ticket Live Blank Report, or Ticket Live Dashboard).

    • Ticket Historical Blank Report Template: for older ticket data.

    • Ticket Live Blank Report Template: for near real-time ticket data.

    • Ticket Live Dashboard Template: preloaded with common visuals.

  3. Enter your report name in the New Report Name field.

Tip: Include Historical or Live in the name based on your selected template.

  4. Click Create Report.

FAQ/Troubleshooting:

Q: What’s the difference between Historical and Live templates?
A: Historical templates show archived/older data, useful for long-term trend analysis. Live templates pull near-real-time ticket data for day-to-day monitoring.
