Using SMS and MMS Notifications in Your Workflow

Modified on Thu, Jun 26 at 10:33 AM

Looking to notify team members via text message when specific ticket events occur? Great news—UtiliSphere allows you to set up SMS and MMS notifications using email-to-text functionality, customized by the recipient’s wireless carrier.

Before You Begin

  • SMS and MMS messages are sent through email-to-text gateways provided by each mobile carrier.

  • This feature is ideal for short, time-sensitive alerts—but be aware that longer messages or attachments may require MMS or be truncated depending on the carrier.

  • Some carriers (like AT&T) have discontinued support for email-to-text. If your recipient is using a discontinued service, messages will not be delivered.

  • Messages are not encrypted and should not contain sensitive information.

Tips for Success

  • Use SMS for short alerts, like assignments or changes.
  • Use MMS for messages with images, attachments, or extended text--but only where supported.
  • Double-check that the mobile number and carrier combination are accurate before finalizing setup.

How to Format the Recipient’s Address

Use the correct format based on the mobile carrier of your recipient. Replace [##########] with the user’s full 10-digit mobile number (no dashes or spaces).
