Purpose/Overview
This feature allows you to make a full credential one of the steps required to complete another credential. For example, you may have several credentials available for learners to peruse and enroll into via your training library. However, you may also want to offer a full "umbrella" training program that covers all topics a specific audience might want to complete for a more comprehensive understanding. Learners can choose to complete individual credentials, or the full program. This feature is designed for administrators who want to offer higher-level credentials that incorporate existing items, streamlining the learner experience and tracking progress automatically.

Things to Know:
- Once a credential is added to another credential, it becomes a "child credential."
- Child credentials can only be offered as stand-alone credential or added to other parent items.
- A child credential cannot have other credentials added to it. Therefore when adding a new step the credential option will not be enabled.
- Once a credential has another credential added as a child, it becomes a "parent credential."
- Parent credentials cannot be added as a step to other credentials. Therefore when added a credential as a new step, parent credentials will not be available as an option.
- The marketing page for credentials will show an indication to leaners if there are other credentials involved. The updated marketing page is shown here:
- If Credential is a parent, the "Additional training you'll complete" section will display.
- If Credential is a child, the "You'll also get credit that applies to these items" section will display.
Key Benefits/Use Cases:
- Offer a comprehensive credential that recognizes completion of multiple existing topics, making it easy to certify learners who complete a full program.
- Allow learners to register for and complete individual credentials at their own pace, with the system tracking progress toward the higher-level credential.
- Streamline the learner experience. Student are automatically registered for all required child credentials however will not be required to complete the credentials they had previously completed.
How It Works:
Follow these steps to setup or enable:
- Step 1: Navigate to your desired credential and open the design tab.
- Step 2: Choose to add a step.
- Step 3: From the list of available step options, choose "Credential".
- Step 4: Choose the credential you would like to add as a child.
- Step 5: Save your changes. The selected credential is now a child of the parent credential.

FAQ/Troubleshooting:
Q: Can a child credential have other credentials added to it?
A: No. Once a credential is a child, it cannot have other credentials added. When adding new steps to your design, the credential option will not be available.
Q: Can a parent credential be added as a step to another credential?
A: No. Parent credentials cannot be added as steps to other credentials. When adding credentials as a step, these parent items will be shown in the list as unavailable.

A: The learner will automatically skip that step and proceed to the next incomplete item.
